The Galata Triangle describes the epoch of the most tumultuous and troubled world of the 20th century followed by the First World War and October revolution which got reflected on the life of ordinary people.
“Aristocracy, once embellished with refinement and good manners got bent and was walking along narrow streets of the city in a confused manner, wearing shabby and pallid coats and carrying suitcases.”
Aristocracy having fled from Georgia and Russia got sheltered in Constantinople and from there travelled to France with Eastern, Orient Express which used to arrive to Constantinople from Europe and from there go back to Paris and other European cities.
Indeed, it was a hard time, unclear and dangerous when it is extremely hard to find one’s own place since “sometimes there comes the time when everything loses its essence, value and worth. What is of importance is only the effort made for existence and who knows, what will happen then.
The person in this condition does not look ahead and has no time for thinking.
Many people demonstrated their nature and character. No one knew who would take which side and decline to what direction and, possibly, that unmasked face was indeed strange to them as well.
Alienation with one’s own self and values, which linked them to their old life and time, had a mirror reflection with the portrait of that epoch.”
