Emma is a comic novel written by Jane Austen, in English, first published in 1815 by editor John Murray, about the dangers of misunderstanding romance. The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is described as "beautiful, smart and rich" but she is also quite spoiled. Before starting the novel, Austen wrote, "I'm going to choose a hero who, except me, won't like it very much."
